“I Am Malala”

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

By: Malala Yousafzai with Patricia McCormick

This is the first autobiography I have ever read. This book is absolutely amazing, it was a gripping, interesting story and it was recommended to me by my teacher. I was getting interested in non-fiction and she said this was a great book to start off with. It’s called “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai.

I loved “I Am Malala” because it was really heartfelt and genuine. Malala is a feminist and an activist for a woman’s rights for education. She is the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize ( she was only 17 years old!!!). She lived in Swat, Pakistan. One day on the bus home from school, a few people from an organization called “Taliban”, tried to kill her. They did this because she was voicing her thoughts and was trying to help convince people that women deserved everything that men had. The Taliban believed that women were only meant for raising children and cooking, and that women deserved no rights whatsoever. They shot three bullets at her and one landed above her left ear, it had crashed right into a nerve that allowed her to move her left eye, smile with the left side of her mouth and speak. She had to relearn how to talk and how to walk. All of this happened just because she thought that women deserved education and rights.

Malala felt so deeply for her cause and she expressed it really well in her book. I understood what she was fighting for and why. This book made me think about how different education and women’s rights are in different parts of the world. “I Am Malala” talks about what Malala did to change our wold for the better, why she did it and how she did it.

This book has completely changed the way I think about rights for everyone. “I Am Malala” is a great book about how Malala changed her country. You experience what happened to her as you would in your own life. This book may be a little sad but it is also funny, exciting and uplifting. It gave me a feeling of hope that things could change in a good way. It is a great way to learn about history while having fun. You get to see the world through Malala’s eyes and you get to live her life with her.
